James P. McElhinney, M.D., a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, joined Orthopedic Associates in 1971. His special interests are in general orthopedics, knee, shoulder and joint reconstruction. Dr. McElhinney received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. Dr. McElhinney attended medical school at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He completed a surgical internship at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, California. His residency was through the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Program. He did his fellowship in Reconstructive Hip Surgery at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. Dr. McElhinney's professional medical affiliations are the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. McElhinney has been a team or consulting physician for the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Crush and Denver Broncos. He enjoys spending time with his wife, five children and grandchildren.
