Steven M. Traina, M.D., a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, joined Orthopedic Associates in 1985. His special interests include sports medicine, surgery of the shoulder and knee, and total knee replacement. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Central College in Pella, Iowa. He then attended medical school at the University of Illinois. Dr. Traina completed his surgical internship and orthopedic residency at the University of Illinois at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He completed a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery through the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Traina is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Association for Arthritic Hip and Knee Surgery, Arthroscopic Association of North America, International Sports Medicine Society, Professional Team Physicians Society and National Basketball Associated Physicians Society, for which he serves as president. Dr. Traina has been the team physician for the Denver Nuggets since 1986. He has been a consulting physician for the Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Crush and Denver Broncos. He is also a boxing commissioner for Colorado. Dr. Traina has published and spoken nationally and internationally on sports medicine and total knee replacement topics.
